Bhubaneswar, Jan 27: An 8-year-old Lioness Rewa died in Nandankanan Zoo today. She delivered three cubs on January 25 after a 103-day gestation. The first cub was stillborn, while two more cubs were born following veterinary intervention.
Rewa experienced complications while giving birth to a deceased cub on January 26 evening.
Born in 2017 at the Kamala Nehru Zoo in Indore, she was brought to Nandankanan Zoo as part of an exchange program on December 20, 2020.
During her time at Nandankanan, Rewa successfully gave birth to eight cubs after mating with the male lion, Jit. Her loss leaves Nandankanan with 23 lions.
