Mumbai, December 3: BJP legislators from across Maharashtra are arriving in Mumbai to attend an important meeting on Wednesday to elect the leader of the legislature party. This marks a significant gathering, with MLAs, ranging from newcomers to senior leaders, converging at the party's headquarters near Mantralaya in south Mumbai. The meeting will be crucial in determining the next steps for the party, amid growing calls for Devendra Fadnavis to be named the next Chief Minister.
The party has appointed Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani as observers for the meeting. They will attend and report on the election of the legislature party leader. BJP legislator Amit Satam shared: “The legislators are keen for Devendra Fadnavis, who played a pivotal role in the BJP's success and contributed significantly to MahaYuti's victory, to be the Chief Minister. We expect him to be elected as the legislature party leader during Wednesday’s meeting.”
A first-time legislator from cooperative-dominated western Maharashtra echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that Fadnavis had worked tirelessly to boost the BJP’s performance and vote share. “We want him to become the Chief Minister,” the legislator said. A four-term party veteran also backed Fadnavis, calling him the frontrunner for the Chief Minister’s post. He praised Fadnavis for not only leading the BJP to victory but also for his efforts in managing party rebels and campaigning extensively for the party and MahaYuti candidates.
“Fadnavis is widely regarded as an effective administrator, having demonstrated his leadership during his tenure as Chief Minister from 2014 to 2019,” the veteran leader remarked. He further noted that Fadnavis’s strategic acumen would be invaluable in managing the upcoming elections for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.
