Cuttack, Ap 17: In a heartwarming tale of compassion and dedication, a man from Cuttack has been quietly making a difference in the lives of street dogs for over 16 years. Puspanka Banerjee, a resident of Petin Sahi in Cuttack, has turned his home into a haven for over 25 stray dogs, treating them not as animals, but as members of his own family.
Puspanka’s commitment to these voiceless companions began nearly 6-7 years ago when a stray dog gave birth to puppies at his home. Since then, he has been taking care of the mother and its entire lineage. Today, his home has a dedicated bedroom for the dogs, complete with beds where they sleep comfortably. “They are like my children,” he says. “They eat chicken daily, get regular vaccinations, and receive medical treatment whenever required.”
Speaking about the bond he shares with his furry companions, Puspanka recalls moments during video calls with his daughter, who lives in Bangalore. “When she calls out their names during the call, they gather near the phone, wagging their tails excitedly. It’s a beautiful connection,” he shares with a smile.
He believes dogs are among the most loyal creatures on earth. “They give us unconditional love, and caring for them gives us emotional satisfaction,” he says.
His daughter echoes his sentiments, stating, “My brother and I live away from home, but whenever we return, the dogs welcome us just like family. It gives us inner peace to be around them. Everyone helps people, but very few extend that love and help to animals, especially street dogs.”
Puspanka’s selfless service stands as an inspiring example of compassion, proving that true kindness often speaks without words only through wagging tails and warm hearts.
