Rourkela, March 25: In a tragic incident, a minor boy was charred to death after being caught in a fire that broke out at a pile of wood and bamboo in Rourkela on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Badal Maharana (12), son of Ajay Maharana of Vivekananda Palli.

The boy was reportedly playing near the pile, which had been left over from the Durga Puja Pandal at Telephone Bhawan in Sector 6.The fire erupted at the heap of materials, and the blaze quickly intensified, engulfing the boy. Sadly, he did not survive the incident. The other four children managed to escape. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and authorities are still investigating.

Being informed, sector 6 police reached the spot, rescued the child, and sent him to Rourkela Government Hospital. However, he was declared dead by the doctor.
