Punjab Kings edge RCB in a Low-Scoring Contest
Punjab Kings (PBKS) secured a hard-fought five-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday, April 18th. The innings failed to gain momentum, with key batters Rajat Patidar and Jitesh Sharma also falling cheaply. Marco Jansen (2/10) utilized his height effectively, while Yuzvendra Chahal (2/11) controlled the middle phase with clever variations, leaving RCB reeling at 42 for 7 at one stage. Facing the prospect of being bowled out for an extremely low total, Tim David produced a remarkable counter-attacking innings. Initially supported by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, David took charge after Harpreet Brar (2/25) claimed two quick wickets to reduce RCB to 63 for 9. David farmed the strike effectively and unleashed powerful shots in the final over, hitting three sixes off Brar to reach an unbeaten fifty off just 26 balls. His late onslaught single-handedly lifted RCB to a total of 95 for 9.
Punjab Kings' chase of 96 was far from straightforward. RCB pacer Josh Hazlewood bowled an exceptional spell, utilizing the pitch's extra bounce to great effect. He claimed three crucial wickets – Prabhsimran Singh, Priyansh Arya, and later Shreyas Iyer and Josh Inglis – finishing with figures of 3 for 14 in his three overs. His performance kept RCB in the contest, reducing PBKS to 53 for 4 and creating considerable pressure.
Amidst the pressure created by Hazlewood, Nehal Wadhera played a composed and ultimately match-winning innings for Punjab Kings.
