Angul, Apr 6: Angul Police in Odisha nabbed a notorious criminal following an encounter while he was trying to flee after firing at them late last night.
The criminal has been identified as Kshirod Nayak, a resident of the Chhendipada area.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint operation was conducted by Chhendipada Police, Angul Town Police, and a Special Squad. The team had launched the operation to arrest Nayak, who has several criminal cases against him.
According to reports, when police surrounded him near the orchard, Nayak tried to escape and fired three rounds at the officers. In response, the police fired back and shot him in the right leg.
Following the encounter, he was taken to the District Headquarters Hospital in a critical condition for treatment.
The encounter was carried out to curb criminal activities in the region. Further investigation into the matter was underway, said the police.
