Bhubaneswar, Jan 23: In an unfortunate incident, a 12-year-old girl died after accidentally eating rat poison laced rice in Birmitrapur area of Odisha's Sundargarh district today.
The deceased has been identified as Kiran, daughter of Sagar Kumbhar. The incident has been reported from Riun village under Birmitrapur police limits in the district.
As per reports, Kiran returned home from school on Tuesday afternoon and ate rice laced with poison meant for killing rats which was kept in the house. Her health condition became critical a few minutes after consuming the rice.
Thereafter, her family rushed her to the Rourkela Government Gospital (RGH) where the attending doctors declared her dead.
Sagar filed a complaint with Kuarmunda police outpost on Wednesday. Police registered a case of unnatural death and seized the body. Subsequently, it was sent for post-mortem.
Notably, Sagar’s elder daughter had also died a few months back after a venomous snake bit her while sleeping at home.
