Bhubaneswar, December 3: In the past three years, 233 migrant workers from Odisha have tragically lost their lives while working in other states, according to Labour and Employees’ State Insurance Minister Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia.
Answering a question from Choudwar-Cuttack MLA Souvic Biswal, Minister Singkhuntia revealed this information in the Odisha Assembly on Tuesday.
The Minister detailed district-wise statistics, revealing that Ganjam had the highest number of fatalities, with 43 deaths, followed by Balangir, which reported 26 fatalities.
Of the total number of deaths, 199 bodies were brought back to Odisha. The state government spent ₹24,16,604 on repatriating the remains during this period.
