The Odisha government has unveiled the official list of public holidays for 2025, offering state government employees 26 designated holidays and eight optional days to celebrate cultural and national festivities.

Bhubaneswar, Nov 13: The Odisha government has unveiled the official list of public holidays for 2025, offering state government employees 26 designated holidays and eight optional days to celebrate cultural and national festivities.

The calendar kicks off with Makar Sankranti on January 14 and wraps up with Christmas on December 25. Key holidays include Republic Day (January 26), Holi (March 17), Rath Yatra (July 6), Independence Day (August 15), Gandhi Jayanti (October 2), and the Durga Puja break from October 1 to 5, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of Odisha.

Additionally, employees have the option to take leave on eight optional holidays to observe festivals such as Eid-e-Milad, Guru Nanak Jayanti, and Mahavir Jayanti. This well-rounded holiday list offers a balance between work commitments and the celebration of Odisha’s diverse traditions and national holidays.

Government employees may avail themselves of any one of these holidays, irrespective of religious affiliation, subject to prior approval. It was also noted that festivals occurring on Sundays or on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays have not been designated as official holidays.
