New Delhi, Feb 28: Odisha cadre IAS Tuhin Kanta Pandey has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). The appointments committee of the Cabinet approved Pandey’s appointment on Thursday.
“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Tuhin Kanta Pandey, IAS (OR:1987), Finance Secretary and Secretary, Department of Revenue to the post of Chairman, Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), initially for a period of three years from the date of assumption of charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier,” read the government order.
Pandey, a 1987-batch bureaucrat who is currently serving as the Finance Secretary, will replace current SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch, whose tenure ends on March 1 and assume office for an initial tenure of three years. Buch took office on March 2, 2022, for a three-year term, making history as the first woman to lead the markets regulator.
The SEBI chief has the option to receive a salary equivalent to that of a Secretary to the Government of India or a consolidated monthly salary of Rs 5,62,500, excluding house and car benefits.
