Bhubaneswar, Jan 05: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the families of two individuals who were tragically killed by looters during a dacoity attempt in Odisha’s Jajpur district on January 4.
Expressing his sorrow over the incident, Majhi also declared that the state government would cover the medical expenses for those injured in the attack.
The two victims, identified as Nilamadhab Panda, a local resident, and Sunil Ray, an employee of a jewellery shop, lost their lives during the violent robbery attempt in Panikoili, Jajpur. The incident occurred when at least five bike-borne assailants attempted to rob Ray, who was on his way to deposit cash from the jewellery shop at a nearby bank.
The miscreants opened fire at Ray, leaving him critically injured. Tragically, one of the bullets struck Panda, who was nearby, and he died instantly. The locals, upon witnessing the attack, chased and captured two of the assailants, while some individuals sustained injuries during the ensuing scuffle.
Ray was initially taken to a local hospital and later transferred to a medical facility in Cuttack, where he succumbed to his injuries.
