Bhubaneswar, Dec 24: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today unveiled statues of two distinguished figures-former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Cuttack and renowned scholar Bagmi Biswanath Kar in Bhubaneswar. This event is part of the state's initiative to honor 21 notable personalities in 2024.
A 10-foot bronze statue of Vajpayee was installed at Belview Chhak in Cuttack, while Kar’s statue was placed on the premises of the Odisha Legislative Assembly in Bhubaneswar.
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Sports Minister Suryabanshi Suraj attended both ceremonies. Speaker of the Odisha Assembly, Surama Padhy, was also present for the unveiling of Kar’s statue in Bhubaneswar.
Taking to X, Chief Minister Majhi shared, "It was a privilege to unveil the statue of our former Prime Minister, guide, and Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Belview Chhak in Cuttack. This is a moment of great pride and honor for all of us. His contributions to the development of Odisha and the nation will be remembered for generations."
The ceremony for Kar’s statue was held in a simple yet meaningful manner at the Assembly premises. Majhi remarked, "I paid tribute to the great social reformer Bagmi Biswanath Kar by unveiling his statue here at the Assembly."
