Bhubaneswar, December 15: Commissionerate Police have cracked the murder case of a woman found on the Kathjodi riverbank in Cuttack. The investigation, aided by a tailor’s receipt and UPI transaction history, led to the arrest of three suspects: the victim’s husband, Balaram Duhuri, and his brothers, Jagannath and Hapi Duhuri.
Police Commissioner Suresh Dev Datta Singh praised the collaborative efforts of Odisha and Gujarat Police in solving the case. City DCP Jagmohan Meena highlighted the role of meticulous investigation and community cooperation in the breakthrough.
The case began on December 13, when the victim’s body was discovered under Kandarpur police limits. Scientific teams and a dog squad collected evidence, including a weapon (chapad). A blood-stained shirt and a tailor’s receipt bearing the serial number “3833” were pivotal clues.
After tracing the receipt to a Gujarat-based tailor, police identified Jagannath Duhuri as a key suspect. He was apprehended aboard a train near Muniguda with the help of Rayagada Police. Further interrogation revealed the involvement of Balaram and Hapi Duhuri.
The crime stemmed from marital disputes, with Balaram suspecting his wife of infidelity. All three accused have been arrested and will face court proceedings.
Further investigations are ongoing.
