Bhubaneswar, Apr 17: In a major step to improve traffic rules and road safety across the state, Odisha government has announced the creation of a dedicated ‘Traffic and Road Safety Wing’ (T&RSW).
This wing will work directly under the Director General of Police (DGP) and will be based in Bhubaneswar. The main job of this wing will be to manage traffic better and make roads safer across Odisha.
According to an official statement from the government, this new setup will work at the state level under the control of the top police official, the D.G. & I.G. of Police.
To run this wing, the government has approved 66 staff members at the headquarters and 1,930 more staff for different districts. These people will help carry out traffic control and road safety measures on the ground.
The T&RSW will start different programs to improve the movement of traffic, reduce road accidents and keep people safe on city roads and highways.
Apart from this, the state government will also open 20 new cyber police stations across the state. These stations will help deal with rising cybercrimes and make it easier to investigate digital crimes.
