Bhubaneswar, January 23: Keeping in view the growing population and tackling key urban challenges, the Odisha government has planned to extend Bhubaneswar’s city limits, incorporating, Cuttack, and Puri.
Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra said that Bhubaneswar is set to undergo a major transformation into a modern urban center with enhanced planning.
“The city is grappling with issues like rising property prices, traffic jams, and overloaded infrastructure. Expanding Bhubaneswar’s boundaries under the Town Planning Scheme (TP Scheme) will provide much-needed solutions,” Mahapatra said.
The expansion plan includes upgrading administrative and municipal units to better cater to the needs of the increasing population. A key part of the development will be the construction of a ring road and the widening of existing roads to improve both infrastructure and connectivity.
The state government is also working on an ambitious vision to create a tri-city area, incorporating Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Puri. “The tri-city proposal is under active discussion, and more detailed plans will be shared soon,” Mahapatra added.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance urban development across the state. Recently, Odisha has announced significant projects, including the transformation of Puri into an international city and the Mahanadi riverfront beautification project in Cuttack. These efforts are designed to elevate the state’s urban landscape and increase its appeal on the global stage.
