Odisha: Maa Gajalaxmi immersion begins in Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal, Oct 19: The devotees of Dhenkanal district will bid adieu to Maa GajaLaxmi today. As part of the environment-friendly immersion process, the idols will be immersed in five artificial ponds created on the banks the river. The ‘melana’ or traditional get-together will be held today following which around 38 idols from across the town will be taken out in processions for immersion. Sources said, at least 27 platoons of police force have been deployed to maintain law and order during the immersion ceremony. The century-old Gajalaxmi puja continued for 11 days. As many as 38 puja pandals have come up from Korian to Dhenkanal College Road. In the year 1923, Laxmi Puja here started when Late Braja Kishore Pattnaik performed this puja on Hanuman temple campus.
