Bhubaneswar, Apr 6: In a tragic incident, a man from Kumbharbasta village of Odisha's Khordha district allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving train near the Nijigarh-Tapang railway track on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Ramachandra Badajena. He recorded a video before taking the extreme step, in which he accused his wife of mental harassment.

According to sources, Ramachandra had been married to Rupali and had a daughter with her.

In the video message, Ramachandra directly blamed Rupali for his mental suffering. Soon after recording the message, he ended his life on the railway tracks.

His family claimed that he had been facing regular harassment from his wife, which prompted him to take this step. They also alleged that Rupali often stayed away from their home and mistreated Ramachandra for not visiting her parental house frequently.

His mother stated that their family bore the entire cost of the wedding and even gave Rs 20 lakh to Rupali’s family. "My son suffered a lot after the marriage. This tragedy is the result of the cruelty he faced. We want justice," she said.

Following the incident, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and local police reached the spot and recovered the body.

A case was registered based on a complaint filed by Ramachandra’s parents.

Based on the complaint, police have arrested Rupali and booked her under Sections 108, 351(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on charges of abetment to suicide.

Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
