Berhampur, Ap 22: Eight scientists from top Odisha-based research centers i.e.NISER, IIT Bhubaneswar, Institute of Physics, and IISER Berhampurhave received the 2025 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics from CERN.
The most sought-after $3 million prize honors their critical contributions towards revolutionary work in particle physics in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) Run-2 experiments, which ended in July 2024.
Some of the awardees include renowned scientists Bedangadas Mohanty, Ranbir Singh, and Seema Bahinipati. They were part of milestone experiments such as ALICE and CMS, which explored the properties of subatomic particles, the Higgs boson, and the universal imbalance between matter and antimatter.
This international acclaim reflects the growing position of Odisha in the arena of scientific research, particularly in the area of quantum physics.
