Bhubaneswar, Jan 24: In a significant step towards addressing climate change, a MoU was signed with IIT Bhubaneswar under the Enhancing Climate Resilience of India’s Coastal Communities (ECRICC) project on Wednesday.
This collaboration focuses on restoring vital coastal ecosystems such as seagrass beds and salt marshes. It plays a vital role in biodiversity preservation and coastal protection.
IIT Bhubaneswar has been designated as the Technical Support Agency (TSA) for the project that provides technical guidance for the restoration and sustainable management of the ecosystems.
In another major initiative, the FE&CC Department signed a Letter of Understanding (LoU) with the World Food Programme (WFP) for a joint regional adaptation project, Adaptation for Resilience (ADAT4R), between India and Sri Lanka.
The project, set to focus on Odisha’s Nuapada district aims to strengthen the flexibility of vulnerable farming communities, especially women farmers, against the increasing impacts of climate change.
The initiative will run over five years.
Additionally, the government signed a MoU with the Council on Energy, Environment, and Water (CEEW) to create a Net-Zero Roadmap for Odisha.
This project will develop decarburization strategies across key sectors such as industry, power, transport, and agriculture.
