New Delhi, Feb 22: Sunil Bharti Mittal, founder and chairman of Bharti Enterprises, was awarded the Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE) medal on Saturday.
The prestigious honor was presented to him at a special investiture ceremony held at the British High Commissioner's residence in New Delhi, attended by close friends and family. This ceremony followed the 2024 announcement that King Charles III had graciously conferred Mittal with the Honorary Knighthood for his outstanding contributions to UK-India business relations, as confirmed by the British High Commission in New Delhi.
Lindy Cameron, the British High Commissioner to India, expressed her pleasure in presenting the KBE medal to Mittal. She remarked, "I was delighted to present Sunil Bharti Mittal with the KBE medal on behalf of the King. Mittal is a great friend of the UK, with significant investments in companies such as BT, Gleneagles, Norlake Hospitality, and OneWeb."
Cameron also praised Mittal's leadership, highlighting his role in strengthening the UK-India partnership, particularly through his involvement with the India-UK CEO Forum. She also noted Mittal's recent efforts in leading a senior Indian business delegation to the UK, where they met with Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Foreign Secretary, Chancellor, and other ministers to explore ways to foster economic growth in both nations. Cameron expressed her eagerness to continue working closely with Mittal and congratulated him once again.
Upon receiving the honor, Sunil Mittal shared his gratitude, stating, "It is an honor to have received the KBE from King Charles III. As India and the United Kingdom continue to expand their bilateral relations, I view this recognition not only as a privilege but also as a responsibility. I remain committed to working with stakeholders from both nations to further advance India-UK business ties."
