Keonjhar, Apr 22: In a tragic incident, a student of a private college in Odisha’s Keonjhar town was found dead in his hostel room late last night.
The deceased student has been identified as Jaladhara Mahanta, a resident of Tangarapada village under Patna police limits in the district. He was pursuing a summer course at Gayatri Residential College in Keonjhar town.
As per reports, Jaladhara had dinner with his friends around 10 PM and then went to sleep. Around 1 AM, his hostel mates tried to wake him up but he didn’t respond. They quickly informed the college authorities, who rushed him to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). Unfortunately, the doctors declared him dead.
Upon getting the information, police arrived at the scene and seized the body. Subsequently, it was sent for post-mortem.
"He called me around 2 PM and said he would come home on May 8. I told him I’d come on May 9 and take him home, since his summer course was ending on May 10. Then I got a call from the college saying my son was unwell. When I reached there, I found out he had died," said Jagabandhu Mahanta, the student’s father.
While the reason behind the student’s death is yet to be ascertained, his family members have demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.
A case has been registered and further investigation into the matter was underway, said the police.
