Cuttack, Apr 22: In a tragic incident, two police personnel were killed and another sustained critical injuries after a Hyva truck rammed into a Police Control Room (PCR) van along the Cuttack-Paradip road in Odisha in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The deceased officers have been identified as Jagannath Mahali, the driver of the PCR van, and Lokanath Shabar, a member of the Odisha Auxiliary Police Force (OAPF).
As per reports, the mishap took place near Gati Routpatna when a speeding sand-laden Hyva truck rammed into a PCR van from the C.R.R.I. police station leading to the death of two police personnel on the spot and critically injuring another officer Pabitra Mohan Sethi. He is currently undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
Upon getting the information, police arrived at the spot and detained the truck driver for questioning. The cops also seized the bodies of the deceased persons and sent them for post-mortem.
An investigation has been initiated into the matter to determine the circumstances leading to the fatal crash, said the police.
Chief Minister Mohan Majhi announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh each to the next of kin of the two police personnel.
Expressing his condolences to the bereaved families, CM Majhi made the announcement through a post on ‘X’ and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
