Bhubaneswar, Nov 19: Stakeholders in Odisha's tourism and hospitality industry have urged Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to revamp the state's tourism policy to enhance investment, infrastructure, and operational efficiency. The Hotel and Restaurant Association of Odisha (HRAO) has pointed out significant shortcomings in the existing policy, which is not succesful in attracting either domestic or international tourists or in developing the necessary infrastructure.

Among the key recommendations is the establishment of a dedicated land bank specifically for hotels to facilitate easier access to prime locations. Additionally, stakeholders are advocating for the privatization of Pantha Nivas properties, which are government-owned guesthouses, and a reduction in bureaucratic hurdles to streamline the clearance process for new developments.

HRAO President JK Mohanty stressed the urgent need for more luxury accommodations in the state and suggested that land be offered to hoteliers at industrial rates to encourage investment.

Furthermore, stakeholders have proposed the formation of a state tourism development board to oversee and promote tourism initiatives effectively. They also suggested organizing Familiarization (FAM) trips for embassy officials to showcase Odisha’s tourism potential on a global stage.

These strategic measures aim to position Odisha as a leading tourist destination in India, addressing existing policy gaps and fostering an environment conducive to growth in the tourism sector. By focusing on improved infrastructure and investment, stakeholders believe Odisha can significantly enhance its appeal to travelers and boost its economy.
