New Delhi, April 23: In the wake of the deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, the Union government is to convene an all-party meeting on April 24. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is likely to chair the session.
The attack, which took place at the Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam on Tuesday, is being described as one of the most brutal since the 2019 Pulwama incident that killed 40 CRPF personnel.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who cut short his visit to Saudi Arabia, chaired a high-level meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on Wednesday morning. “In the wake of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, chaired a meeting of the CCS at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg,” PM Modi posted on X.
The meeting, which lasted over two hours, was attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and other top officials.
Defence Minister Singh earlier condemned the attack and assured that the perpetrators would face a "loud and clear" response from the government.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has also called for a separate all-party meeting on April 24. According to the invitation, it will be held at 3 PM at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the Government Medical College (GMC) in Anantnag on Wednesday to meet the injured. He also conducted an aerial survey before reaching the attack site in Baisaran meadow, which now bears the scars of the assault that claimed several lives and left many wounded.
