Paris Olympics: Odisha's Amit Rohidas to miss India-Germany SF

Paris, Aug 5: Seasoned Odisha defender Amit Rohidas, who was issued a Red card in the India-Great Britain Quarterfinal hockey match of Paris Olympics 2024 on Sunday, as per rules, will miss the Semifinal against Germany on Tuesday.

Amit was handed one match ban during the Quarterfinal battle, which India eventually won via penalty shootout (4-2). Both teams scored a goal each during the stipulated time, although India had to play with 10 players, after Amit was issued a Red card.

Amit got the Red card by the on-field umpire while he was dribbling during the Great Brittan match, when his stick hit a rival player. 

Despite reduced to 10 men, India ended up clinching a superb victory in the shootout with veteran goalkeeper PR Sreejesh once again fashioning a memorable Indian victory.

Worth mentioning that upset with Amit's Red card and a few other decisions, Hockey India officially raised concerns about the quality of umpiring and decision-making in the quarterfinal.

Hockey India raised the following objections:

1.  Inconsistent video umpire reviews.

2.  Coaching of a goalkeeper from behind the goalpost during the shoot-out. 

3.   Use of a video tablet by a goalkeeper during the shoot-out. 

India took the lead in the 22nd minute with captain Harmanpreet Singh drawing the first blood for India. But Lee Morton scored just five minutes later to bring England back into the game.

India will play Germany in the Semifinal on Tuesday. The game will start around 10.30 pm IST, as per match schedule.
