Bhubaneswar, Jan 13: The Capital Police in Bhubaneswar arrested a man for allegedly duping a job aspirant by impersonating as a Section Officer of the Panchayati Raj Department.
The accused has been identified as Byasadev Rana, hailing from Narla in Kalahandi district. He had been residing in the Ekamra area of Bhubaneswar.

According to police, Rana posed as a Section Officer of the Panchayati Raj Department using a forged identity card and a fake Secretariat pass. Using these counterfeit documents, he gained access to the Lok Seva Bhavan and there he exploited his fake role to dupe job aspirants by falsely promising government jobs in lieu of money.
The matter came to light after a youth hailing from Pipili in Puri district, who was allegedly cheated of Rs 20 lakh by Rana, filed a complaint with the Capital Police Station. Rana had promised him a government job and duped him.
Acting on the complaint, police swung into action and launched a probe into the matter. Thereafter, Byasadev Rana was arrested near the gate of Lok Seva Bhavan on Friday. He was later forwarded to the court.
Further investigation into the matter was underway.
