PM Modi congratulates Rekha Gupta on becoming Delhi's Chief Minister

New Delhi, February 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Rekha Gupta on Thursday after she took the oath as the Chief Minister of Delhi. On X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi praised Rekha Gupta’s journey from grassroots politics to the highest office, expressing confidence in her leadership.

 “Congratulations to Smt. Rekha Gupta Ji on taking the oath as Delhi's Chief Minister. She has risen from the grassroots, engaging in campus politics, state organization, and municipal administration, and now serving as an MLA and Chief Minister. I am confident she will work tirelessly for Delhi's development. My best wishes to her for a successful tenure. @gupta_rekha," PM Modi wrote.

 Earlier, Rekha Gupta was sworn in as Delhi’s ninth Chief Minister, with six other ministers also taking the oath at the Ramlila Ground in the national capital. The appointment of Gupta and her cabinet was officially announced by President Droupadi Murmu. A gazette notification from the Ministry of Home Affairs stated: “The President is pleased to appoint Mrs. Rekha Gupta as the Chief Minister, National Capital Territory of Delhi, effective from the date of her swearing-in.”

 The six other Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders sworn in as ministers included Parvesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra, and Pankaj Kumar Singh.

 Top BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister JP Nadda, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, attended the ceremony alongside chief ministers and deputy chief ministers from other states.

 Speaking to the media after the ceremony, Rekha Gupta described her new role as a “miracle” and a “new chapter” that marks a transformative phase for women in politics. She expressed her determination to hold corrupt individuals accountable, saying, “If I can become the CM, this means that doors are open for all women... Anyone corrupt will have to account for every single rupee.”

 Rekha Gupta also thanked the BJP leadership for placing their trust in her to govern Delhi. “This is a huge responsibility. I thank PM Modi and the BJP high command for believing in me. I will fulfill my duties with the utmost honesty. My priority is to honor all the commitments our party has made, and my second priority is to ensure that all our 48 MLAs work as a unified team,” she said. “I never imagined I would become the CM of Delhi.”

 On Wednesday, Rekha Gupta was elected as the leader of the BJP legislative party during a meeting of newly-elected MLAs.( With ANI Input)
