New Delhi, Dec 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid his last respects to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at his residence in Delhi and expressed his condolences.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Health Minister, and BJP National President JP Nadda were among those who paid their respects. Congress leaders, including KC Venugopal, also gathered at the late Prime Minister's residence to honor his memory.
Notably, Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday evening at AIIMS Delhi at the age of 92, following age-related health complications. He experienced a sudden loss of consciousness at home and was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he breathed his last.
The mortal remains of the former Prime Minister will be placed at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters in Delhi for public viewing. According to Congress party sources, the public can pay their respects during the "last darshan" scheduled for Saturday between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM.
Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, will pay tribute to Singh at the AICC office before the final rites are performed. His cremation will be done near Rajghat, the site reserved for the last rites of former Prime Ministers.
Singh was widely revered for introducing India's economic liberalization reforms in 1991 as Finance Minister.
