Berhampur, Jan 27: Police on Sunday rescued four persons who were abducted by the miscreants from the Golanthara police station area in Odisha's Ganjam.
Sources said, the four youths were held captive for a ransom of Rs 1 crore. Following their abduction, the four were held captive in a house in Chikiti Garh for the past three days and are being terrified by a staged snake.
According to the police, the kidnapper, Nittu Patra, tortured the four and threatened to kill them by showing them the snake.
One of the four kidnapped men managed to escape from the house in the early hours of Sunday and reached the Chikiti Tehsil office. He informed about the incident to the police.
Being informed, police raided the house, rescued the other three abductees, and brought them all to the police station for interrogation later in the day. Police started an investigation into the matter.
As the investigation unfolded, a deeper mystery surrounding the case emerged.
During a search at the site where the victims were held captive, authorities discovered a large-scale ganja cultivation, which added a new layer of complexity to the incident.
The local authorities including the Chikiti Tehsildar, police officials, and officers from the Excise and Forest departments, on Monday conducted a thorough search in the area. They found ganja cultivation on government land.
