New Delhi, February 24: Atishi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly and former Delhi Chief Minister, has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of harboring anti-Dalit and anti-Sikh sentiments. Atishi made these remarks after meeting the newly elected Delhi Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, in her office on Monday.
Following the meeting, Atishi held a press conference, alleging that portraits of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh had been removed from all government offices.
“The BJP’s anti-Dalit mindset is well known, and today they’ve provided further proof of it. When Arvind Kejriwal was in power, pictures of Baba Saheb Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh were displayed in every government office. However, now that the BJP is in power, they’ve removed these portraits from the Chief Minister's office. This demonstrates that the BJP is an anti-Dalit, anti-Sikh party,” Atishi claimed.
Additionally, Atishi expressed dissatisfaction with the Delhi Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, over an unfulfilled promise regarding the Mahila Samman Yojana. Atishi pointed out that the Delhi government had failed to follow through on a commitment made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “We requested time from the Chief Minister over the past two days but could not meet with her. Today, we finally spoke with her during the session,” Atishi said.
She criticized the delay in implementing the Mahila Samman Yojana, a scheme meant to provide financial assistance to women in Delhi. Atishi accused the government of not living up to its promises and described the guarantee given by the Prime Minister as “false.”
Earlier in the day, Rekha Gupta took her oath as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Delhi. According to the Delhi Assembly bulletin, Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena will address the assembly on February 25, after which the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports will be tabled. On February 26, the assembly will begin discussions on the motion of thanks to the LG's address, followed by the election of the Deputy Speaker of the Delhi Assembly.
