Kolkata, December 3 : West Bengal's Agricultural Marketing Minister Becharam Manna on Tuesday claimed that certain businessmen, with support from the BJP-led central government, managed to send large quantities of potatoes to Bangladesh in November, despite existing export restrictions.
Addressing the state Assembly, Manna revealed that the state government had launched an investigation into the illegal export of potatoes to the neighboring country earlier last month.
"Some unscrupulous traders, with the backing of the BJP government at the Centre, exported potatoes to Bangladesh during the first week of November," Manna stated. "The potatoes were sent via the Mahadipur check post in Malda district, the Hili check post in Dakshin Dinajpur, and the Changrabandha checkpoint in Cooch Behar."
