Thirty-four years ago, Commodore Ravi Ahluwalia led the Indian Navy contingent down Rajpath with pride. This Republic Day, history repeats itself as his son, Lieutenant Commander Saahil Ahluwalia, takes the helm.
It's a story – a tale of legacy, dedication, and the deep-rooted bond between a father and son. This Republic Day, as India celebrates its 76th year of independence, the Ahluwalia family will witness a moment etched in their personal history and the annals of the Indian Navy.
Back in 1991, a young Commodore Ravi Ahluwalia commanded the Navy contingent at the Republic Day parade. Fast forward to 2025, and it's his son, Lieutenant Commander Saahil Ahluwalia, who will follow in his father's footsteps, leading the very same contingent down the renamed Kartavya Path. Saahil's journey is more than just a reflection of his father's legacy. It is his hard work, dedication, and the unwavering pursuit of excellence that defines the Indian Navy.
Saahil's naval journey began in 2012 when he joined the INA. At the academy, he was awarded the coveted title of best sportsperson of his course. The he was Commissioned in 2016, Saahil's career had exciting deployments and challenging missions. From anti-piracy patrols in the Indian Ocean to Operation Samudra Setu during the COVID-19 pandemic, Saahil has served on the front lines, protecting India's interests at home and abroad. His Naval endeavors voyaged him to 27 countries, where he participated in joint exercises with naval forces from around the globe. A specialist in gunnery and missile warfare, has earned him the responsibility of Gunnery Officer on INS Mysore, one of India's most formidable warships.
For his impeccable service record he was chosen for the prestigious role of Guard Officer to the President of India, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. And now, he adds another feather to his cap by leading the Navy contingent at the Republic Day parade.
"It's an overwhelming feeling," Saahil confesses. "To follow in my father's footsteps is an honour beyond words. This is the culmination of months of rigorous training, discipline, and teamwork. Every member of the contingent has poured their heart and soul into this, and we're confident of putting on a spectacular show."
For Commodore Ravi Ahluwalia (Retired), the moment is filled with pride and nostalgia. He shared "Seeing Saahil lead the contingent brings back a flood of memories, and has made the family proud."
This Republic Day, 26th January 2025, as the Navy contingent marches down Kartavya Path, it will be a celebration of not just India's military might, but also the enduring power of family, and legacy. Kudos to the Ahluwalia family for taking forward the Naval legacy.
