Moscow/New Delhi, Mar 14: Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with US President Donald Trump, and the Presidents of China, Brazil, and South Africa for their efforts in helping resolve the Ukraine conflict.
During a joint press conference with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, President Putin stated, “I would like to begin by thanking US President Mr. Trump for his focus on the Ukraine settlement. We all have our own domestic issues to handle, but many world leaders, including President Xi of China, Prime Minister Modi of India, and the Presidents of Brazil and South Africa, have devoted significant time to this matter."
He further added, “We are thankful to them for their efforts, as this activity is aimed at a noble cause — ending hostilities and saving lives.”
Prime Minister Modi has been actively engaged in diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict, having spoken to both President Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy over the phone, as well as in person. India’s consistent stance has been that dialogue and diplomacy are the only viable solutions, emphasizing that resolutions cannot be achieved through warfare. PM Modi has repeatedly called for both sides to cease violence and engage in direct discussions.
Since the conflict’s onset in February 2022, India has maintained this position, including abstaining from voting on resolutions at the UN that condemn Russia. Additionally, India has provided humanitarian aid to Ukraine, including tents, bedding, and medicines.
