Puri, Dec 29: Scheduled silver plating in Puri Shri Jagannath Temple began on Sunday.
Artisans and silversmiths have kick-started the silver-paving work from the 'Gumuta' of the temple, as per the blueprint.
According to the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration sources, the 'Manibandha' near Patitapabana is also being meticulously coated with silver, as a part of the beautification. Later, the Jamashila will also be silver finished.
Earlier in 2021, silver coating of all the doors of the Srimandir was resolved to be worked out. The doors were decided to be cladded with silver sheets made out of over 2,500 kg silver donated by a Mumbai-based devotee.
The doors were made out of Burma teak wood, which were then silver plated having traditional pattachitra patterns. Two committees, one technical and another of senior servitors were constituted for supervision of the work.
Accordingly, woodwork for four doors i.e-Jaya Bijaya Dwar, Beherana Dwar, Kalahata Dwar and Bhoga Mandapa Paschim Dwar was completed. However, woodwork was to start soon for Sata Paahacha Dwar and Dwars of Adi Nrusingha temple, Maa Bimala temple and Maa Mahalaxmi temple.
