Balasore, April 14: In an unfortunate incident, a law and order situation erupted at Ganipur village Odisha’s Balasore district on Sunday after handful miscreants pelted stones to the crowd during the Hanuman Jayanti rally.
As many as 12 persons including the Nilagiri SDPO and a number of police personnel sustained critical injuries whereas the SP’s official van was damaged due to the sudden attack.
Sources said that the Bajrang Dal was taking out a rally on account of the Hanuman Jayanti in Remuna in the afternoon. The rally amid hundreds of devotees began from the Khirachora Gopinath temple and was proceeding towards Ganipur. Meanwhile, some locals opposed a loudspeaker sound near the Masjid Complex following which it took an ugly turn as the sound was not paused by the operator. Subsequently, an oral altercation came up where two groups confronted each other and stones were instantly pelted to the crowd. As a result, scores of people including the cops deployed here sustained injuries and the vehicle of the SP was also vandalized.
Following the incident, armed forces were mobilised to the spot and Section 144 was imposed in the Remuna area by the district admin for indefinite period to control further untoward situations.
