Hyderabad, November 25: In a significant move, the Telangana government has declined a ₹100 crore donation from the Adani Group intended for the Young India Skills University.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced the decision, citing the need to uphold the state's reputation and avoid being drawn into controversies surrounding the corporate conglomerate.
Addressing the media, CM Reddy stated, "The Adani Group had committed ₹100 crore under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for the university. However, considering the ongoing discussions about corruption and controversies in neighboring states and countries, we have decided to reject this contribution to maintain the integrity of our governance."
He further emphasized the state's financial independence, adding, "Telangana has a robust budget of ₹3 lakh crore. We cannot risk our reputation for ₹100 crore. Our government runs on principles of integrity, and we will not allow any misconceptions to tarnish our state's image."
Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan conveyed the government's stance in an official letter to the Adani Group, thanking them for their commitment but declining the transfer of funds. "In view of the present circumstances and arising controversies, the Hon'ble Chief Minister has instructed us not to seek the transfer of funds," the letter stated.
