Baripada, Nov 25: Three-year-old tigress Zeenat was released from the enclosure and has venture into the Similipal core area today.
According to Susant Nanda, PCCF (WL) & CWLW, tigress ‘she is now resting in the forest after her liberation. The collar ID system has been used to monitor both Zeenat and another tigress, Yamuna, 24 hours a day.
The officials have confirmed that both tigresses are currently healthy and adjusting well to their natural habitat. This successful release marks a significant step in wildlife conservation efforts and highlights the importance of protecting these magnificent creatures in their natural environment.
Tigress Zeenat brought as an interstate translocation programme from TATR of Maharashtra would infuse the much needed genetic diversity of Similipal Tiger Reserve.
The tigress was tranquilised in Tadoba Andhari on November 13 at 4 pm. It was then transported by road to Similipal via Raipur and Sambalpur. Zeenat reached Jashipur on Thursday at 7:30 pm.
Worth mentioning, the Similipal sanctuary is home to 28 tigers, including 15 that are pseudo-melanistic.
