New Delhi, Feb 1: In a major push for the agricultural sector, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday presented the Union Budget 2025 in the Parliament and announced the PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana.
The PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana focuses on several key areas, including crop diversification, enhanced post-harvest storage at panchayat and block levels, better irrigation facilities, and improved access to both short- and long-term credit.
The new scheme is expected to benefit 1.7 crore farmers across the country.
The Finance Minister said that, “PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana will benefit 1.7 crore farmers and aims to create ample opportunity for rural areas so that migration becomes an option, not a necessity."
With rising incomes and changing consumption patterns, India is witnessing a growing demand for vegetables and fruits.
"The government is working towards achieving self-sufficiency in pulses. Consumption of pulses has increased significantly, and the government will launch a 6-year mission for self-sufficiency in pulses. A comprehensive programme for vegetables, fruits would be launched," said FM Sitharaman.
The Budget Session of Parliament, which began on Friday, will be held in two phases. The first phase started on January 31 and will run until February 13, while the second phase will begin on March 10 and conclude on April 4.
