Bhubaneswar: When the country folk go big with indulgence in colours on the day of festival of Colours – The Holi 2025 (March 14), indulgent mercury too seems going mercurial on the ‘colorful’ day.
On March 14, Odisha will be celebrating Dolo Purnima.
At present, as per the national weather forecaster IMD, the maximum temperatures were in the range of 35-39℃ at most places over
- Maharashtra
- Telangana
- Kerala
- Coastal & north interior Karnataka
- South Chhattisgarh
- Odisha,
- extreme south Gangetic West Bengal
- north interior Tamil Nadu
However, as per NCMRWF model forecast, an anticyclone area over Oman, UAE, Iran with an associated ridge at lower level of atmosphere extending over to Arabaian Sea will prevent the flow of dry westerlies over India, especially over Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh and Odisha in next 24 hrs.
On March 10, as per NCMRWF model forecast, owing to strong easterlies a trough line will pass over Andhra Pradesh, Odisha extending up to Himalyan West Bengal. This will lead to a cool down the temperature in most parts of pensisular India and Odisha.
Even, the maximum temperature of Western states like Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh will also record a dip in day time maximum temperature.
However, from March 12 onwards, westerly wind inflow to India will resume heating up many places in states like Gujarat, Maharashtra, MP, Telangana and Madhya Pradesh.
ODISHA WEATHER
As per the NCMRWF and IMD model forecast, the maximum day time temperature in Odisha will drop to 36-34 deg C from March 6 onwards.
The reason behind drop in maximum temperature is attributed to no inflow of dry westerly winds over the State following a weather development over Middle East Asia region.
Odisha will see a rise in temperature from March 11 onwards, following the resumption of westerly wind inflow to India.
HOLI WEATHER
The weather model forecast of NCMRWF shows the inflow of dry westerlies at lower level of atmosphere peaking on March 14.
As a consequence, the mercury will go mercurial affecting states like Maharashtra, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha.
Mercury will touch 40 deg C or above at many places in Maharashtra, some places in MP adjoining Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Odisha.
ODISHA MAY 14 (DOLA PURNIMA) WEATHER
The model forecast of IMD and NCMRWF shows that on the Dola Purnima day, Odisha, especially the western and central region will have the feeling of a hot cauldron.
The forecast shows maximum temperature touching 41/42 deg C at few places in Kalahandi/Rayagada districts.
As many as 11 districts will record mercury at 40 deg C on March 14. The name of districts is given below.

- Sambalpur
- Subarnapur
- Boudh
- Deogarh
- Angul
- Phulbani
- Parts of Sundargarh and Keonjhar
However, the maximum temperature in Coastal areas is predicted to remain around 36 deg C.
ON MARCH 15 (HOLI DAY) in Odisha: Many places in the State will record maximum temperature in the range of 38/39 deg C, except in Balangir, where temperature will rule at 40 deg C.
Cuttack, Bhubaneswar will sizzle at 37 deg C on Holi day here.
