Bhubaneswar: The Odisha is going to host the fifth edition Super Cup 2025 football tournament to be played at Kalinga Stadium here from April 21, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) announced on Wednesday.
The 16-team tournament will be played in a knock-out format. Thirteen Indian Super League clubs and three I-League clubs will participate in the competition.
Introduced in 2018 as the successor to the Federation Cup, the Super Cup was also hosted in Bhubaneswar last year.
Bengaluru FC won the inaugural edition in 2018, beating East Bengal in the final while FC Goa trumped Chennaiyin FC to be crowned the 2019 Super Cup champions.
After being scrapped from 2020 to 2022 due to COVID, the Super Cup returned in 2023 with Odisha FC emerging as the winners after defeating Bengaluru at the EMS Stadium in Kerala.
East Bengal, who will be the defending champions in the upcoming edition of the tournament, clinched the 2024 Super Cup title with a thrilling 3-2 extra-time victory over Odisha FC in the final at Bhubaneswar's Kalinga Stadium.
All previous Super Cup winners - Bengaluru FC, FC Goa, Odisha FC and East Bengal - will compete in the fifth edition of India’s premier Cup football competition.
The winners of the Super Cup 2025 will earn a chance to compete in the 2025-26 AFC Champions League 2 (ACL2) Playoffs.
