Bhubaneswar: February seems unusually hotter this year in Odisha. The hotter ambience has been due to rising of the mercury by 2-3 deg C above normal.
The mercury-rise has been recorded in the State since the first week of February
The national weather forecasting agency, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), data shows the day time maximum temperature at most places in Odisha have increased by 2 deg C in the first week of the current running month.

After a hiatus for around 48-72 hrs, since the last two days, the mercury has again picked up the northward trend in the State.
The day time maximum temperatures have been risen by 2 deg C in the coastal region, including Bhubaneswar, shows the IMD data.
Moreover, the minimum temperature that has fallen since last 4 days has risen up again by at least 2 deg C in the last 48 hour period.
As per IMD forecast, the maximum temperature in the central and south India, including Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, parts of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, will post a rise from Feb 17 onwards.
HOTTER DAYS COMING
A glance at the IMD forecast shows the minimum temperature in Odisha will post a rise from Feb 18 onwards.
As per the forecast, the minimum temperature in coastal Odisha will be rising up with the mercury being predicted to hover at around 24 – 26 deg C.
In tandem, the day time maximum temperature will post a rise with the mercury touching 38 deg C at many places in the State from Feb 18 onwards.
The 38 deg C temperature in its sweep will cover the places of State Capital Bhubaneswar and silver city Cuttack.
LAST WINTRY SPELL OVER WESTERN ODISHA
Before the advent of hotter days from February third week onwards, the western Odisha, especially Sundargarh, including Rourkela, and Jharsuguda, will witness the night time temperature dipping, and the minimum temperature falling below 12 deg C from next 72 hours onwards.
The last wintry spell for the western Odisha will continue in the region till February 18.
VALENTINE RAIN IN STATE CAPITAL
As per the model forecasts of IMD and NCMRWF, with the flow of north westerly winds into Bay of Bengal and the winds meeting with the easterly winds here, a trough will be formed around Feb 13 near Odisha, which will be bringing rainfall in some coastal places, including Bhubaneswar.
As per the model forecast, as the mercury picks up pace from around Feb 18 in Odisha, easterly winds over bay of Bengal may form a trough in south bay of Bengal, close to TN coast with the trough line passing over Odisha to northeast, which may bring rains over the coast places on Feb 20, 21.
