Bijapur, March 30: Fifty Naxalites, including 14 individuals with a combined reward of Rs 68 lakh on their heads, surrendered in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Sunday, informed a police official.
The surrender took place in the presence of senior officials from both the state police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
The individuals who laid down their arms cited several reasons for their decision. These included disillusionment with the Maoist ideology, the exploitation of tribals by senior leaders of the Communist Party of India (Maoist), and internal conflicts within the movement. Additionally, they expressed appreciation for the security forces' efforts, such as setting up camps and the ‘Niya Nellanar’ (your good village) initiative, which has brought essential services and infrastructure to remote areas, benefiting local communities, Bijapur Senior Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Yadav explained.
