Chandigarh, October 26 : Seven officers from the Punjab Police, including two Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), Gursher Sandhu and Sammer Vaneet, were suspended after an investigation revealed negligence related to an interview given by notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi while he was incarcerated.

The Punjab Home Affairs Department, acting on directives from the Governor, ordered the suspension following findings by a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The SIT, led by Prabodh Kumar, IPS, and established by the Punjab State Human Rights Commission, reported that Bishnoi managed to give a video interview on a TV channel in September 2022 from within the confines of the CIA Kharar. Officers cited in the report include DSP Gursher Singh, PPS, DSP of the 9th PAP in Amritsar, and Sammer Vaneet, PPS, DSP of the Economic Offences Wing in SAS Nagar, among others from the Anti-Gangster Task Force and the CIA in Kharar.

In a related development, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has announced a ₹10 lakh reward for information leading to the arrest of Anmol Bishnoi, Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother, who is wanted in connection with two NIA cases and a shooting incident near Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s residence earlier this year. The NIA has urged the public to come forward with information, emphasizing that capturing Anmol Bishnoi could yield significant insights into organized crime networks across the region.
