Dhenkanal, April 20: In a shocking incident, a seven-year-old girl was allegedly assaulted sexually in Hindol area of Dhenkanal district, said police on Sunday.
The minor girl was initially admitted to Hindol Hospital in critical condition. Later, she was shifted to the Angul District Headquarters Hospital after her condition showed no improvement.
According to reports, the girl had left home to collect palm fruits. When she failed to return after some time, her worried family launched a frantic search.
After hours of searching, they discovered her lying unconscious, covered with palm leaves, approximately 15 meters from their residence on the village outskirts.
Following a complaint filed by the family, the Hindol Police registered a case and started an investigation.
A scientific team and a sniffer dog squad have been deployed to assist with the probe, said police.
