Bhubaneswar, Apr 30: In a major boost to agriculture sector and farmers, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Wednesday released Rs 1,025 crore under the CM-KISAN scheme.
The fund, which was disbursed on auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, was directly credited to the bank accounts of around 51 lakh farmers.
According to a release from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), CM Majhi disbursed Rs 1,025 crore in financial assistance under the CM Kisan Yojana for the 2025 Kharif crop season, benefiting 50,16,938 small and marginal farmers, 49,482 landless agricultural families, and 2,382 tribal farmer families.
A total of 51 lakh farmers are set to benefit from this financial assistance, with 25,532 urban farmers included in the scheme for the first time.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that this timely support will aid farmers in carrying out their agricultural activities effectively.
Speaking at the state-level Farmers’ Day celebration on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya at the OUAT farm in Baramunda, CM Majhi highlighted that several farmer welfare initiatives—such as the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, Sri Anna Yojana, crop diversification, and integrated farming programmes—are being actively implemented across the state to boost farmers’ income and create more employment opportunities.
He stated that at the time of independence, India struggled to feed its population of around 33 crore people. However, today, the country is self-sufficient in food grains and other agricultural products, even becoming a key exporter of agricultural and allied goods. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi since 2014, agriculture and farmer welfare have gained new focus and direction.
Notable progress has been made in initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, and the development of agricultural infrastructure, he added.
The Chief Minister further mentioned that over 60% of the state's population relies on agriculture and allied activities, which contribute 22% to the state's overall growth.
