Mumbai, April 25: Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan has shared his thoughts on his upcoming Netflix series Jewel Thief – The Heist Begins, emphasizing his deep respect for the craft of acting, regardless of the platform.
Speaking candidly, Saif said, “There were one or two people who asked my manager if I was doing TV now. There’s nothing against television – it’s a great medium. But I don’t think the Netflix series is like TV at all. There are differences.”
For Saif, the project represents a distinct creative space. He believes every role—whether in a large-scale film or a smaller project—deserves complete dedication and authenticity. “Being in front of the camera is a privilege; the older I get, the more I understand that,” he shared.
Stressing the importance of excellence, he added, “You have to be great and try to be very good at everything, and also respect the platform you are on. There’s so much amazing content out there and so many brilliant actors doing fantastic work. I don’t differentiate between a big movie or a small one anymore—it’s just an opportunity to give it your all, and that requires 100% commitment.”
Reflecting on his role as Rehaan Roy, a master thief in the heist series, Saif expressed his fascination with the character’s rebellious streak. “Playing a thief in a heist movie is very interesting. He’s someone who challenges the system and bends the rules—it’s fascinating to explore and portray.”
Describing Rehaan, Saif said, “He’s a thief with organization and swag, an adventurer at heart, and a family man. He’s the quintessential Hindi film hero—he cons people and breaks the rules, but he has a kind heart and a broader vision. That complexity made the role irresistible and, I believe, compelling to watch.”
Directed by Kookie Gulati and Robbie Grewal, Jewel Thief – The Heist Begins also stars Jaideep Ahlawat, Nikita Dutta, and Kunal Kapoor. The series will be available for streaming on Netflix starting April 25.
