Bhubaneswar, January 18: The Bhubaneswar Bar Association organized a farewell on Saturday for the 34th Chief Justice of Orissa High Court, Chakradhari Sharan Singh, at its newly constructed conference hall. Justice Singh is set to demit office on Sunday, January 19, after serving as the Chief Justice for nearly 11 months, having assumed the position on February 7, 2024.
In his farewell address, Chief Justice Singh expressed his admiration for Odisha’s rich cultural heritage, its cordial people, and its linguistic and artistic wealth. "The richness of Odia language and the state’s art and culture left a lasting impression on me. Odia literature, with its profound poetry and storytelling, is a significant contributor to India’s cultural landscape," he said, emphasizing Odisha’s deep-rooted history and its classical dance form, Odissi.
Chief Justice Singh began his legal career at the Patna High Court Bar in 1990, practicing in constitutional, service, criminal, and arbitration matters. Over 22 years of practice, he served as the Additional Advocate General of Bihar from December 2010 until his elevation to the bench. He was appointed a judge of the Patna High Court on April 5, 2012, and later became the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court on February 2, 2024.
During the farewell event, Sitanshu Mohan Dwivedi, Chairman of the Odisha State Bar Council, highlighted Justice Singh’s impactful tenure, describing it as a period of progress for the state judiciary. "Chief Justice Singh brought about remarkable reforms, spearheaded infrastructure development, and significantly improved the delivery of justice in Odisha," Dwivedi remarked.
Deepak Dash, Secretary of the Bhubaneswar Bar Association, praised Justice Singh’s achievements, including the inauguration of the Bhubaneswar Judicial Complex by President Droupadi Murmu. "His tenure was marked by significant contributions, and he will be remembered as a lovable and approachable person," Das said.
The farewell ceremony was attended by dignitaries, including High Court judges Justice Savitri Ratho, Justice V. Narasingh, Justice Mrugank Sekhar Sahoo, and Manas Mohapatra, former Chairman of the Odisha State Bar Council, along with more than 5 hundred members of Bhubaneswar Bar Association and several members of the legal fraternity.
