Bhubaneswar, Ap 3: The state government has made detailed plans for a big celebration to mark Bhubaneswar’s 77th Foundation Day on April 13 and 14. A meeting to finalize the arrangements was held on Wednesday at Lok Seva Bhavan, led by Development Commissioner Anu Garg. The aim was to ensure all departments work smoothly together.
Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Rajesh Prabhakar Patil presented a full schedule of events. The celebrations will include a flag hoisting ceremony, a civilian parade, cultural performances, and various student competitions, making it a lively event for the community.
Bhubaneswar, which became the capital of Odisha on April 13, 1948, turns 77 this year. The celebrations will coincide with “Odia Paksha," running from April 1 to 14. Key highlights include “A Day for Odia Cuisine” on April 13 and the celebration of “Odia New Year” on April 14, emphasizing the city's cultural heritage.
The festivities will begin on April 13 with a floral tribute at the foundation stone plaque near the Odisha Legislative Assembly, followed by the flag hoisting. A parade with student groups and musical bands will march from Rabindra Mandap to Soochana Bhawan. In the evening, there will be a cultural event at Utkal Mandap, featuring traditional Odia art and performances.
A special photo exhibition at Soochana Bhawan will showcase Bhubaneswar's history and development over the years. Government and private buildings across the city will be lit up, and statues of famous figures will be cleaned and decorated. Traffic management measures will also be in place to ensure smooth events.
Officials from various departments, including Tourism, Culture, Works, Higher Education, School & Mass Education, and police, attended the meeting to plan a grand, inclusive, and culturally rich celebration for the people of Bhubaneswar.
