Patna, April 3: Bihar's Leader of the Opposition, Tejashwi Yadav, on Thursday accused certain so-called secular parties of revealing their true stance in the Lok Sabha by supporting the Waqf (Amendment) Bill. He vowed that these parties would face consequences in the upcoming state elections.
“The RJD has consistently opposed the Bill in both Houses of Parliament, but some parties claiming to be secular have now been exposed for their support. From the very beginning, we have stood against this Bill, and the people of Bihar will teach them a lesson in the upcoming Assembly elections,” Yadav asserted.
Yadav also launched a harsh critique of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, accusing his government of freeing criminals from jail and promoting corrupt officials to prominent positions during his two decades in power.
“The Nitish Kumar government is enacting laws that benefit criminals who were released from jail,” he said, citing the Anant Singh case. He further alleged that such criminals were receiving preferential treatment, even at the Chief Minister’s residence.
In addition, Yadav accused the Nitish Kumar government of elevating bureaucrats who repeatedly make errors, instead of holding them accountable.
“Nitish Kumar has imposed what is being called the 'DK Tax' in Bihar,” he remarked, though he did not clarify the specifics of this term.
Yadav also claimed that the JD-U party was now divided into two factions: one aligned with the BJP and the other maintaining its secular stance.
“I urge the secular faction of JD-U to clarify their political position,” he added.
