Puri, Sept 13: The Animal Husbandry Department has imposed a three-month ban on poultry farming in the bird flu-affected areas of Odisha’s Puri district. This decision came after hundreds of chickens died due to the recent bird flu outbreak.
The ban has been imposed in Pipili, Delanga, Satyabadi and Nimapada areas of the district and the department has already sealed 55 out of 861 farms in Pipili block, 64 out of 344 in Delanga block, and 22 farms in Satyabadi.
According to the department's directive, poultry farming is banned within a 1 km radius of infected areas. Additionally, the sale and transportation of poultry products are restricted within a 1 km to 10 km radius of the affected zones.
Meanwhile, thousands of poultry farmers from these areas, who have not received compensation, have submitted a written complaint to the district administration. They have also issued a warning that if their demands are not addressed within seven days, they will block the national highway.
